Why Isn't She Going to the 'Idol' Finale?

by Kate Ward

Yes, yes, yes, we're all excited to watch Jena Irene and Caleb Johnson face off during the first half of American Idol's Season 13 finale. But we're all even more excited to watch the star-studded spectacle that will be the second half of American Idol 's Season 13 finale. (That is, if you count KISS, Jason Mraz, and, of course, Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr., as "star-studded.") But there's one star close to Idol fans' hearts that will be conspicuously absent during Wednesday night's final show. One star who had "all of us" at the beginning of Season 13. That's right — American Idol's first openly gay contestant, MK Nobilette, will not be at the Idol finale this season.

But why? Never fear, Idol fans — MK isn't getting snubbed by the reality series. Instead, as MK noted on her Twitter account, the singer won't be able to attend the Season 13 finale because of an undisclosed illness. And while that in itself might be cause for concern, the singer made clear that though it will stop her from appearing on our television screens, it won't stop her from appearing live on the Idols LIVE! tour. Wrote MK in her tweet, "Hey everyone I won't be in the finale this year due to illness but don't worry! I will still be on tour!"

Still, no matter who makes Idol Season 13 history on Wednesday night, it's still a shame that we won't be able to see the woman who truly made Idol history. Then again, there's always YouTube to help us remember what an imprint she made.

Get better soon, MK — especially since you certainly helped Idol get better.
