Check Out the First Photo of Frankie Barrymore

Almost as interesting as when we're going to get a first look at a celebrity's baby is how we're going to get a first look at a celebrity's baby. They might release the picture on their website like Beyoncé and Jay Z did with Blue Ivy. They might tweet it to their followers like Ciara and Future did with Future Zahir. They might debut their family photos in People magazine like Drew Barrymore did with Frankie Barrymore Kopelman. The latter's method feels like the most official way to share the newborn bundle of joy, even if it is a lot less personal.

However, Barrymore wasn't afraid to get personal in her cover story for the edition of People magazine that hits the newsstands this Friday. In addition to discussing the ease of her recovery — which is to be expected, as Frankie is her second child after 20 month old Olive — Barrymore also spoke of the girls' relationship with one another and her own feelings on motherhood. Admittedly, we don't need Drew Barrymore to tell us that being a mother is never completely easy no matter how many times you're doing it, but Barrymore does raise a good point about her values as far as her children are concerned.

Always being on time, being there when I say I'm going to be there. Creating a real stable home. I know when my daughter wants to swing higher and jump into the pool and all of these things, she feels safe. To make your kids feel safe is everything.

The focus on stability and safety comes as a result of Barrymore's own tumultuous childhood and it's one of those things that seem like a given part of parenthood until someone actively points out how important it is. Safety and stability are even harder to maintain when you're in a position like Barrymore's, having to travel for acting roles, deal with the tide of public opinion, and accept that sometimes being a celebrity means a crazy stalker is going to try and break into your house. (Accept being a strong and inaccurate word for how celebrities should, and do, typically respond to people breaking into their homes.)

With Frankie being born into the public eye like her sister Olive, it's nice to know that Barrymore's focus first and foremost is on making sure to be there for her children and make them feel secure. The proud way that she holds Frankie on the cover and the way she gushes about her family is refreshing, even if Frankie looks like she'd rather be anywhere but on the cover of People magazine. Presumably, she'll appreciate it when she's older.
