What's Aaron Paul's 'Better Call Saul' Future?

by Alanna Bennett

You can generally count on Aaron Paul to be psyched about things. This applies to everything from Game Of Thrones' Sansa Stark to his wife to One Direction ... but he's especially psyched whenever Breaking Bad comes up. And with Breaking Bad dead and gone (sad face!) his energies are focused on Breaking Bad spinoff Better Off Saul , which Paul is, yes, already doing a happy dance for.

That happy dance unfortunately didn't come in the form of a giffable moment, but it did come in the form of an effusive little soundbite from the BAFTA Television Awards Monday night. Here's what he told EntertainmentWise:

I think it's going to be great. I went into the writer's room a few weeks back and just hung out with everybody there. I took a peek on the boards on the wall to kind of get a glimpse of what the whole story is about. It's not going to be another Breaking Bad and that's fine. It's a prequel and it just follows the Saul Goodman character and I think it's going to be very exciting to dive deeper into his world.

And as he told Digital Spy, "It'd be nice to play Jesse Pinkman again in his happier times."

That Paul is interested in appearing in the upcoming AMC show is hardly new info: he said as much months ago. But his continued enthusiasm to continue to play Pinkman could provide a nice little boost to viewers interested in seeing him continue to play Pinkman.

There is, of course, a little suspension of belief that would come with Paul's playing Pinkman again: Paul, like any normal human person, has aged since his first appearance as the character eight years ago. He's wider and older. That's not a bad thing — he was but a wee starry-eyed ingenue when the show started — but he looks a little different now then when he first met Walter White:

This isn't a reason for him not to do the show; it'd be a pretty douche move to fault a person for aging. It's just an aspect of the possibility that hasn't been addressed yet. If Paul is meant to be in Better Call Saul he will be, and if he is, the show will be better for it.
