They Have Strong Opinions About Makeup

by Erin Mayer

When famous girls like Taylor Swift and Lorde talk makeup, we listen. Both women have highly distinctive looks that are opposite from one another in many ways. But one thing is clear: They're each worth copying! The two singers/besties were recently interviewed (separately) about their beauty routines. Turns out that they have some really strong opinions about makeup, which is unsurprising given that they look so damn polished all the time.

We already knew that Taylor Swift, who's known for her sweet sense of style, never leaves home without a bold red lip. She told People that she actually chooses her outfit based on her red lip shade of the day. Despite that, she claims not to own a million different lipsticks (okay, sure Taylor — I believe you).

I just find one I like and use it. Right now [I'm using] Dragon Girl by NARS … I’ll go through different phases with makeup and always try new things. Except I never really get too far from red lipstick, do I? I guess I just think my face looks worse without it. That’s pretty much the only rationale behind it.

Many of us have certain little beauty tricks that we believe make us look human. For Taylor, that's perfectly applied red lipstick.

Taylor's BFF Lorde is more interested in a bruised plum lip color than a rosy one, which is fine by me. 17-year-olds have been making goth-chic happen since forever — Lorde just happens to be famous enough that the rest of us sit up and pay attention. But there's one moody teen trend that the Royals singer can't get behind, and that's the smoky eye. "I kind of struggle with a smoky eye, and that’s one I haven’t found a way to make cool. I feel quite dirty — it’s not super-wearable."

This is sad news, because if anyone could kill a really amazing smoky eye, that someone is Lorde. Look at her face! All pale skin and moody eyes... she was practically made for a smudge of dark shadow. But then again, she can't very well sport dark eyes and dark lips. That would be too much. Or would it?
