Laurie Simmons Designs NYFF Poster

by Caitlyn Callegari

A certain Dunham is making waves in the entertainment industry and no, for once it isn't the super talented and equally controversial, Lena. In fact, it's her mother, artist Laurie Simmons, whose name is splayed across the headlines. Reportedly, Simmons designed the poster for the New York Film Festival, which is due to take place in the fall. The honor bestowed upon her by designing the iconic poster shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, though. Simmons is a star in her her own right. The renowned artist's work has been featured in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Tate Modern, and The Museum of Modern Art, just to name a few.

Simmons isn't a stranger to the screen herself, either. The artist made a cameo appearance in Lena's movie, Tiny Furniture, in which she played a quirky yet talented artist (much like herself). She also made her own film, The Music of Regret, in 2006 and is in the process of making another, entitled My Art. We can't help but wonder if (and hope) Lena will once again add actress to her mother's resume and write her into an episode of Girls. It wouldn't take too much for you to make her some hip Brooklyn barista or a hip gallery owner now would it, Lena? Whatever the case, it'd be super fun to see two incredibly talented and related ladies interact on screen together, no matter the circumstance.
