Could There Be More 'Community' in Our Future?!

by Alicia Lutes

OK we're going to try and remember to breathe while we're typing this but we honestly cannot promise it'll happen. (So if this thing trails off mid-sentence you'll know why.) But Hulu is currently in talks to bring a sixth season of Community out into the world and OH MY GOD WE'RE SO EXCITED AHHHHHHHH!!!!

Now, this is all still just some hypothetical ballyhoo, but if it sticks will be a coup for fans of the Dan Harmon series. According to Deadline, the digital platform is in preliminary talks with Community production house, Sony Pictures TV, to bring additional original installments of the show to the Internet after being cancelled last month by NBC after five seasons — ruining the #sixseasonsandamovie plan fans of the series held onto quite dearly.

As for Harmon? Well, at one point his stance was decidedly "eh" on the whole "let's find a new home for Community" train the rest of us were on. (He even confessed as much on his blog.) But after Sony TV floated the idea passed him that there may be a possibility for the series to live elsewhere, he changed his tune, stating, "I'm not going to be the guy that re-cancels cancelled Community."

So, it might be happening! #SixSeasonsAndAMovie may just come true! And it wouldn't just be great news for us, but for Hulu as well — nabbing a network-level comedy with as much buzz and online real estate (fan-wise) as Community would certainly help push their aggressive expansion into original programming in the right direction. After all, Hulu Plus has more than 6 million subscribers, and we bet more than a few of them would be excited to enroll at Greendale.
