The Weird World of Celebrity Instagram Comments

Celebrities can inspire us to do a lot of things.

They influence our style, where we shop, how we wear our hair, what we're naming our babies, and even what we eat.

We see stars everywhere we turn — on TV, at the movies, on the Internet, on the street of New York and LA — and, as a result, we learn so much about them. Often, that can make us feel like we know them on an intimate level.

For example: I've seen every episode of 30 Rock, watched Mean Girls half a dozen times, and have read Bossypants. So now I pretty much know everything about Tina Fey, right? Sort of. I know a lot about her, but I don't actually know her, and I think that's what we pop-culture consumers can sometimes fail to recognize.

I started thinking about this idea when I was scrolling through my Instagram feed a few weeks ago. Usually, I don't read other people's comments but there was a recent one under a photo of Cara Delevingne that struck me as such an odd thing to say or even notice in the first place. To paraphrase, the comment read, "wow, your nails are getting so long!"

Call me crazy, but concerning myself with the length of other people's nails doesn't seem at all reasonable, let alone interesting. Unless they're painted a pretty color or are adorned with some sweet nail art, I couldn't care less what someone else's nails are up to. But that's just me.

Here, a handful of other strange comments from some of our favorite celebrities posting on IG.

1. Zooey Deschanel

Translation: You're a lot prettier on the Red Carpet than you are when you've just rolled out of bed.

2. Cara Delevingne

You just blew any chance you had, anonymous Instagram user.

3. Lily Collins

On the Internet, we're all doctors.

4. Kim Kardashian

After all, maybe not. Also, am I the only one here who had to look up what "DSL" means?

5. Mindy Kaling

If you're like me, you probably care less about how fast Mindy's hair grows and more about where she got her Seth Rogan t-shirt. (Here, by the way.)

6. Rachel Zoe

Dream bigger, people of Instagram. But also kind of same.

7. Alessandra Ambrosio

Celebs can wake our inner-Green Monster.

8. Sofia Vergara

And make us state the obvious.

9. Lupita N'yongo

And point out things no one was concerned about in the first place.

Yes, celebrities can make us think and say a lot of random thoughts. I wonder, where would all of these ideas go without the Internet?
