Watch A Lonely Goat Reunite With His Donkey BFF

We don't need any convincing about the magic of animal friendships, but we'll welcome any excuse to witness it. The latest case is further proof that true friendship knows no bounds, nor species. A goat named Mr. G and a burro named Jellybean were the best of friends, happily living together even in bleak conditions, until they were separated. Their tearjerking reunion is a testament to the power of interspecies friendship, and friendship in general.

Mr. G and Jellybean had lived together for 10 years. Unfortunately, they were living in squalor in a hoarder's home in Southern California, with a woman "who could barely care for herself, let alone the dozens of dogs she hoarded and three barnyard animals," according to animal rescue nonprofit Animal Place. Despite living in neglect, the two animals formed a strong bond.

When Animal Place learned of the animals on the property, they decided to rescue the goat. Little did they know that to Mr. G, it would be a joyless rescue. When the goat arrived on the sanctuary, he just laid in the corner of his barn for days refusing to eat or respond. He was "pathetic, pitiful, forlorn, depressed," Jan Galeazzi of Animal Place described. He made Eeyore look like Tigger.

So the rescuers did some research and learned that Mr. G had had a companion in his previous home, a small donkey named Jellybean. They decided to make the 14-hour trip to bring Jellybean up to the sanctuary. Maybe that would lift Mr. G's mood.

You can guess what happened next. Magic!

Animal Place states in the video, "We had never taken in a burro [a small goat] before, but we knew these friends needed to be together."

Even before he saw Jellybean, Mr. G's nostrils started flaring and he perked up. When he went to check out the scene and saw Jellybean being unloaded, his whole demeanor changed. Mr. G was no longer the mopey, despondent goat that the sanctuary had seen in the last six days. He was lively and energetic, and within 20 minutes of Jellybean's arrival he began to eat.

Now, Animal Place says that they won't be putting either animal up for adoption. Instead, the two will live together for the rest of their lives on the sanctuary.
