fashion and beauty in Marilyn Monroe's words

by Shorey Andrews

What can I say about Marilyn Monroe that has not already been said. The woman is a legend in her own right and a force that, even after her death, is not to be reckoned with. Today marks the beauty's 88th birthday and it is around this time that we all reflect on who she was and could have been. What would she have looked like today? Would she still be in the spotlight? Would people still care? There are so many questions still remaining about Monroe, none of which can ever truthfully be answered.

Today we put aside all of the negativity the often follows Hollywood's most talked about star. Instead, we take a few moments to reflect back on her beauty and grace through her words. Marilyn Monroe quotes are often a topic of speculation with most wondering if they were ever truly words that came out of her mouth. I am not here to confirm or deny those accusations. Regardless of their origin they have Monroe's personality shining through, and they serve as small insights into a big personality with a voice that spoke confidently about beauty and fashion.

Happy Birthday Marilyn Monroe!

ON THE TOPIC OF PLASTIC SURGERY

"I want to grow old without facelifts... I want to have the courage to be loyal to the face I've made. Sometimes I think it would be easier to avoid old age, to die young, but then you'd never complete your life, would you? You'd never wholly know you"

HER THOUGHTS ON SHOES

"I don't know who invented high heels, but women owe him a lot."

"Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world"

WHEN BEING QUESTIONED ABOUT NUDE PHOTO SHOOTS

"It's not true that I had nothing on. I had the radio on"

AFTER A REPORTER ASKED HER A CRUDE QUESTION ABOUT HER BEDTIME APPAREL

"What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course"

HER WORDS ON BODY IMAGE

"The body is meant to be seen, not all covered up"

ON THE TOPIC OF APPEARANCE

"If you're going to be two-faced, at least make one of them pretty"
