Fiona Apple & Other '90s Artists You Should Still Be Listening To

The '90s were a decade of crop tops, teen dramas and crazed musical geniuses. You may still have Britney in your iTunes library, and you might even have Backstreet Boys dance parties in your office on the regular, but there's a good chance that you've forgotten about a whole group of more talented (sorry, Brit), less mainstream artists who provided the soundtrack to your angsty-est years. And while you were busy keeping pace with pop culture, a few of them continued to produce exceptional music. Here are 5 '90s artists you never should have stopped listening to:

Better Than Your Average '90s Popstar

Fiona Apple

Fiona Apple's career has been somewhat unstable — but after one arrest, several breaks from the business, and at least one public meltdown, she's produced her best work yet in the beautiful but exhaustingly titled The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do. Watch her latest collaboration with her ex Paul Thomas Anderson and then buy tickets for her fall tour, on sale Friday.

The Dandy Warhols

Ten years ago, The Dandy Warhols were a Portland band who took their clothes off onstage and had their singles featured on Sex and the City and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They're now almost exclusively known for singing the Veronica Mars theme song, which is unfortunate, because I'm prepared to say that they're the best live performers in the entire world. Buy the 13th anniversary re-release of Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia here, and catch them on tour for the best '90s experience you never had.

Radiohead

If you've ever listened to Radiohead before, there's a 95 percent chance that you still do. But just in case you don't, we're here to tell you that you should. Thom Yorke is still just as crazy as he's always been (if not more so), and things have been going strictly upward for Radiohead since "Karma Police", which the band claims is their worst song, by the way.

Tori Amos

Tori's lightened up a little since the days when she mainly sang about rape and catholic guilt, but she's still one of the most original acts of our generation. Her most recent work was on a musical called The Light Princess, which debuts in London this Fall and sounds just as magical as she is.

Hanson

If the last you heard of Hanson was MMMBop, we'd like to extend our sincerest apologies and update you on everything you've missed: the boys of Hanson have put out 8 studio albums, cut their hair, married Southern Belles (more than one of whom was a fan at a concert, so feel bad about not ever going to one), had lots of adorable kids, become activists, and just recently released their own brand of beer. It's called MMhops. That's all.
