Get Excited for Cara Delevingne's DKNY Collab

by Rosie Narasaki

Cara Delevingne has been busy. In addition to starring in her first film and shooting the ultra-fab Burberry Fall 2014 campaign, she just announced that she will be designing a 15-piece collection with Donna Karan New York. Delevingne's known for her androgynous and laid-back street style, and as such, Vogue reports that her collection will feature items like "beanies, T-shirts and a leather motorcycle jacket with removable sleeves."

Exciting, no? But guess what — there's even more to the story here! When she announced the upcoming capsule collection over Instagram, it came with a call to action — or rather, a call for models. She urged her fans to Instagram selfies tagged "#CaraD4DKNY" and "#CaraWantsYou," in order to be considered to star alongside her in the upcoming campaign.

It's not the first time a high-profile project has issued a wide-open casting call (the new Star Wars film and their international search comes to mind), but casting through Instagram is still a relatively new concept, though another New York-based brand (Marc Jacobs) did a similar model search with the hashtag, "#CastMeMarc". That said, it's certainly an appropriate platform for social media juggernaut Delevingne — she has a staggering 5.5 million-plus followers on her Instagram account alone.

It's quite a concept, and it comes with some questions. Does this mean DKNY is looking for "real" models? Or will they merely use previously undiscovered 5'10" ladies who already look the part? Here's hoping for the former, but I guess we'll have to wait and see!
