The '22 Jump Street' DVD Has a Very Odd Feature

by Mallory Schlossberg

Excited for 22 Jump Street? Apparently, it's going to be a hilarious, out-of-control movie. Pretty much the whole thing will be laden with ridiculous jokes Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. How do we know for sure even though the movie doesn't come out until Friday? The 22 Jump Street DVD has a weird extra feature in which the directors imagined what would happen if they took out all of the film's jokes. The final version of this strange, conceptual experimental piece is only ten minutes long.

The fact that without the jokes, the movie only boils down to ten minutes could mean a couple of things. It could mean that the movie is so damn hilarious that only ten minutes exist without some funny repartee. It could also mean that there's barely a plot. But hey, you don't go see a movie like 22 Jump Street for twists and turns and a mind-bending cardiovascular workout because your heart's racing. You go for the laughs and to see the hilarious antics that occur between Tatum and Hill.

But just because the flick is totally stricken with jokes doesn't mean that the director isn't discerning. In fact, a whopping 45 minutes were cut from the film. You can also watch those 45 minutes on the DVD when it hits stores but before that, it may be best to check out the movie for yourself when it hits theaters on June 13. Then you can decide if you'd like to watch it with more jokes or with less. Or both, if you're left feeling like you could use a 22 Jump Street inspired dose of experimental editing.
