This Guy Has Terrifying Nightmares

by Rachel Semigran

Jason Segel just may be one of the most likable guys in Hollywood, and with good reason. He can play sarcastic without being mean, goofy without being dumb, and charming without being douchey. He’s got the adult comedy Sex Tape co-starring Cameron Diaz coming out in July, as well as a children’s book called Nightmares! arriving in September. I believe that’s what they call “universal appeal.”

Segel has also managed to form a brand all of his own from the Judd Apatow dynasty, much of which is due to his association to The Muppets franchise. His relationship with the Henson classic started when he teamed up with the master puppeteers for Forgetting Sarah Marshall, a film he both starred in and wrote. In the film, Segel’s character deals with a break-up by writing a puppet musical about Dracula’s desire to be loved.

It turns out, Segel’s always had a thing with Dracula. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Segel talked about his own childhood nightmares. Between the ages of eight and 13, Segel has recurring dreams of being inside of Dracula’s castle. According to the actor:

As the years progressed — and this [is an example of] the mind at work — I became more and more familiar with Dracula’s floor plan. I eventually found a secret room in Dracula’s house that even Dracula didn’t know about. By the end of this run of nightmares, I had created this very cushy living-room environment where I could hide from Dracula and play video games.

Segel isn’t the only celebrity whose nightmares have impacted their creative lives. We’ve compiled a list of bad dreams from famous folk, some which will surprise you, many of which will make your skin crawl. Read on... IF YOU DARE!

She has recurring anxiety dreams, which tend to relate to pubic hair. More importantly, she once had a dream/nightmare where she was with Justin Bieber in his childhood home in Canada, and his mom comes home with take-out food from Ikea.

It's no surprise that what comes out of Lady Gaga's subconscious is more than a little unsettling. According to the artist, Lady Gaga has dreams about Illuminati ritual. “I have this recurring dream sometimes where there’s a phantom in my home and he takes me into a room, and there’s a blond girl with ropes tied to all four of her limbs. And she’s got my shoes on from the Grammys. Go figure— pyscho. And the ropes are pulling her apart.”

It gets much more gruesome.

Stephen King

The Master of Suspense has some pretty unnerving dreams of his own. When discussing his inspiration for Misery, King commented,"Like the ideas for some of my other novels, that came to me in a dream... I fell asleep on the plane, and dreamt about a woman who held a writer prisoner and killed him, skinned him, fed the remains to her pig and bound his novel in human skin. His skin, the writer's skin. I said to myself, 'I have to write this story.'"

Along with King, Wilson's nightmares take place in the sky. She once had dreams of being on an airplane with skeletons. And this was before the Game of Thrones Season 4 finale! She felt it was related to her grieving or letting go of a certain part of her body and old life.

Dustin Diamond

His nightmares will certainly make you... Screech. In an interview for the series Celebrity Nightmares Decoded , Diamond describes a dream in which he was trapped in a basement. Behind him, there’s a door that doesn't open. He pulls on the handle but it doesn’t budge. Then he turns around and there’s a big, fat sweaty butcher with hairy arms and an apron covered in blood. He has a face like putty, just sunken in holes where the features should be. Then the butcher lifts his blow torch and says, “I’m going to burn your face off."

Have fun sleeping tonight!

Lil Kim

The rapper and new mother used to have dreams in which her late friend the Notorious B.I.G. would speak to her. In her dreams, she said Biggie would give her advice on her career. However, she did say he was very unhappy about the 2009 biopic, and he made that very clear.

While filming the 2010 drama Rabbit Hole, about parents dealing with the untimely loss of their young son, Kidman stated, "“[It] deeply affects me... there were times when I woke in the middle of the night and I was having nightmares and I was really shaken by it. And that’s when I know when something’s really seeped into my subconscious and is disturbing me.”
