Benedict is Taken?!

by Alanna Bennett

Ah, the changing winds of time. Some days, we're met with an anniversary of a favorite childhood film; some days we're met with the news that Benedict Cumberbatch has quietly gone from single to taken. That's right — Benedict Cumberbatch has a girlfriend, world, so hang on to your hats.

Now, Cumberbatch, who has won over more than just the Sherlock fanbase these past two years with roles in Star Trek Into Darkness, August: Osage County, and 12 Years a Slave, has of course had girlfriends before. His most well-known relationship was with actress Olivia Poulet, whom he was with for 12 years until 2011. But Cumberbatch is also a relatively very private person when it comes to his personal life — a decision that makes sense when you factor in an alarmingly (but often benevolently) invested fanbase.

The revelation of his current taken-ness comes from, of all places, a Page Six story about Rebecca Eaton, producer of Masterpiece Theater. She is not the new girlfriend, apparently, but the story phrases it like it was her job to help Cumberbatch find a new lady love:

That might also explain her other job: helping British hottie Benedict Cumberbatch find a new love interest. She wouldn't say whom the Sherlock actor has met, but she said it's time for all those "Cumberbitches" — the name used by his huge base of female followers — to move on.

I know it's probably not Lupita Nyong'o, but here's to hoping it's Lupita Nyong'o.
