Her Life Is Just Like 'The Wedding Singer'

by Anam Syed

We can't get enough of Defiance, the Syfy series centering on humans and alien races who coexist in the titular town. We love Jaime Murray in the role of Stahma Tarr, which isn't surprising considering her TV background. The London-born actress played sociopathic Narcotics Anonymous sponsor Lila West in season 2 of Dexter, and also appeared in shows like Warehouse 13, The Ringer, and Sparticus: Gods of the Arena. However it wasn't until Defiance that we realized just how great Tarr is, and I'm sure there are plenty of fans who want to know if Murray has a boyfriend.

But before we get to that, it's worth noting that we almost weren't given the chance to fall in love with Murray. When casting for the role of Tarr, Syfy reportedly considered a different actress, one already known for sci-fi work: The X-Files Gillian Anderson. However, according to a Syfy source who spoke to TV Wise, producers feared Anderson wouldn't want to return to episodic television and decided not to ask her, a that loss is certainly Murray's gain. So the actress got lucky with her great Defiance role, but was she as lucky in her romantic life? It seems so.

Murray recently married her boyfriend of three years, Bernie Cahill. Cahill surprised Murray with a proposal while on a flight from Toronto to Los Angeles in December, according to People. He snuck on board in disguise and surprised her by getting down on one knee mid-flight. The pair wed just a few weeks ago in a private ceremony on the Indonesian Island of Bali. Murray told People the experience was "pretty epic and magical." After seeing some photos of the resort that hosted their wedding, Amankila, we don't doubt it. Murray has a great sense of humor about the affair, asking via twitter if getting hitched means you're all grown up.

So who is Bernie Cahill, the man who captured Murray's heart? He's definitely no stranger to dating actresses and Sharon Stone ranks among his exes. Cahill is an industry power player himself, as a partner at ROAR, an entertainment management company. While Cahill stays away from the spotlight unless he's accompanying his now-wife down the red carpet, we can't help but gush over his pretty cinematic proposal, (which is basically the end of The Wedding Singer brought to life).

Between her May wedding and the June 19 premiere of Defiance's second season, Murray has a lot to be happy about.
