U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Hope Solo Arrested

by Emma Goddard

This is shocking. U.S. Olympic gold medalist soccer player, Hope Solo, was arrested for domestic violence on Saturday, June 21, in her Seattle, Wa. home. The soccer star, who is a goalkeeper for the Seattle Reign FC, reportedly got into an alleged physical altercation with her sister and nephew, according to the Seattle Times.

Solo has experienced her own run-in with domestic violence in the past: her husband, former American football tight end Jerramy Stevens, was arrested for allegedly assaulting her a day prior to their wedding. Currently, Solo is being held without bail, and is being charged with two counts of domestic violence assault 4th degree.

Although it is still unclear as to how the alleged dispute began, Solo’s sister and 17-year-old nephew were reportedly left with visible injuries. Around 1 a.m., Kirkland Police Department Patrol Units received a call about a disturbance at the house, with a male caller claiming that a female at the residence was “hitting people.”

“There was a big party going on at her house,” Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray told the Seattle Times. “It was an out-of-control situation.”

Solo was booked into the south King County detention facility and will appear at the Kirkland Municipal Court on Monday, June 23.
