Angelina Jolie Just Reached A Career High

by Alanna Bennett

In some not at all surprising news, Disney continues to be an unstoppable force that spends its days dominating the world. Its latest foray into this hobby somewhat surprisingly doesn't directly involve Frozen, but rather Maleficent , which just crossed $500 million at the box office. You go, Maleficent! Four for you, Maleficent!

The accumulation of this much cash is not only good news for Disney (when was the last time they got really bad news??), but also for Maleficent star Angelina Jolie. Jolie's been around the cinematic block more than a few times, but with this most recent milestone she's reached a new box office height — albeit one not adjusted for inflation.

Jolie's most high-earning film to date was 2005's Mr. and Mrs. Smith , which raked in a worldwide gross of $478.2 million. It's arguable that Jolie's become even more of a household name since that movie and everything that came directly after it. Combine Jolie's starpower with the practically automatic pull of Disney and a new take on an iconic story and apparently you've got numbers that beat Mr. and Mrs. Smith — albeit, again, without adjustment for inflation.

It's also a handy reminder to Hollywood that there's literally nothing stopping a female-led film from completely crushing the box office — in fact, this past year it seems like they're the main ones who have been ruling the day.
