This Is a Wonder Woman Costume We Can Get Behind

by Alanna Bennett

There's a lot that goes into finally bringing Wonder Woman to the big screen. There are plenty of questions, there's plenty of doubt, and there's plenty of excitement. One of the questions that continually resurfaces has always been Wonder Woman's costume — what will it look like? What are the politics at play if producers keep her in the traditional costume, versus if they throw her into leggings and a blazer? Now we might have some clues as to what Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman costume will look like in Batman V Superman. And yes, she'll be "battle ready."

Everything that's floating around about the costume right now is still strictly in the "rumor" territory — we probably can't expect any concrete info or photos until Comic-Con at least, unless something legit leaks before then. But the info does come from JoBlo, which seems to be relatively sound when it comes to these sorts of whisperings. Here's how they describe Gadot's Wonder Woman look for the film:

The reports of Wonder Woman wearing the pre-new52 jacket and leggings outfit are inaccurate [sic]. Completely. The description of the outfit from our source uses the term 'badass' on multiple occasions. This Wonder Woman is ripped right from the comics and has a “traditional, yet sleeker” costume that’s “battle ready.” She’ll have a blue leather skirt, silver-armored cuffs that reach to her elbows, golden tiara (with a design of some sort in the center, possibly the red star) and a variation of the traditional-looking red top (no word on additional armor on it). Her overall appearance is described as 'Amazon warrior princess' and definitely not an urban reimagining. She’s there to kick ass and that’s readily apparent. Word is that WB is getting a VERY positive response on her appearance to those they’ve shown it to.

With a character like Wonder Woman there is literally no way for her costume to please everyone, but this seems pretty solid to me. Something ripped right from the comics but that screams "battle" a little more readily than the original hot-pants situation? Yes, please. Let us also hope for some additional support in the boob area.

Another thing JoBlo learned is that we're unlikely to actually witness the costume until the final act — we'll probably spend some time getting acquainted with Gadot in alter ego as Diana Prince before she goes full-on Wonder Woman. As for her weapons:

That’s right, not just a golden lasso here. Wonder Woman will have no less than FOUR weapons, including shield, sword, spear, and of course, the traditional lasso. It’s also noted that she will wear the shield on her back, Captain America style, when not in use.

I'm still feeling mixed on the rest of Batman Vs. Superman, but I'm so ready for some Wonder Woman action.

What I'm picturing right now, actually, isn't far from what that fan interpretation of Wonder Woman served up a few months back:

So ready.
