She'll Be Just Fine Post-'Mad Men'

Ask any Mad Men fan and they'll tell you: all of those botched Charles Manson theories aside, this was the year of Peggy. Elisabeth Moss gave yet another Emmy-worthy performance as Peggy Olson (hopefully this year she'll actually get a win), but her talents go well beyond the beloved AMC drama. The 31-year-old actress has two indies out this year, The One I Love and Listen Up Philip , which just got its 2014 release date.

Listen Up Philip is a dramedy follows the relationship between a writer and a photographer (Jason Schwartzman and Moss, respectively) and it wowed critics at Sundance earlier this year (IndieWire.com called it "terrific and remarkable"). Tribeca Film will theatrically release the film — which also stars Krysten Ritter, Jonathan Pryce, and Jess Weixler — into theaters on October 17, 2014, and will become available to watch via VOD on October 21, 2014.

In addition to the anticipated Listen Up Philip, Moss's other Sundance dramedy The One I Love will be released in theaters on August 15, 2014. (In this one, Moss plays the other half of a relationship with Mark Duplass.) The One I Love also played well to Sundance audiences, as Variety called it "witty, sophisticated and emotionally authentic all the way."

Mad Men fans still have to wait until 2015 to see how Season 7, and the series itself, wraps up, but it seems like Moss will be the one star to truly give us something worthwhile at the movies until then. (Sorry, Jon Hamm, but your flick Million Dollar Arm was something of a disappointment at the box office.)

While we never had any doubts about Moss's stellar acting abilities (seriously, did you watch the first half of Season 7 and/or her Golden Globe-winning turn in the haunting mini-series Top of the Lake ), we've also admired how she's carried herself off-screen this year. Moss graced the cover of New York Magazine back in March and the actress gave a refreshingly honest interview about her short-lived marriage to Fred Armisen and her profession as a whole. As the down-to-Earth actress (who, respectfully declined to talk about her ties to Scientology) put it, "Acting is not stupid, but it’s a very strange profession, honestly. My job is to get up, and get dressed in someone else’s clothes, and go and pretend that I’m someone else. Who does that? Nobody does that. Strippers and actors do that."

Oh, and lest we forget her greatest 2014 accomplishment to date: she flipped off E!'s Mani-Cam on the red carpet. The Year of Peggy is also turning out to be the Year of Elisabeth Moss, and that's great news for all of us.
