More 'Pitch Perfect 2' News!

by Christine DiStasio

Aca-mazing. We've still got a long, painful wait ahead for the Pitch Perfect 2 premiere in May 2015 but we're getting there. And now we know who Anna Kendrick's Beca and the Barden Bellas competition is — The Sing-Off Season 3 winners, Pentatonix, have joined the cast of Pitch Perfect 2 . So, somewhere between Brittany Snow's adorable onset photos and the casting call for fans in Baton Rouge, some actually pitch-perfect casting got done. (Ha, puns.) Though we don't know much more than the fact that the group will be the Bella's competition, Pitch Perfect fans are in for some damn good a cappella when the sequel arrives in 2015.

Pentatonix is a five-person ensemble that won the a cappella singing competition, The Sing-Off, in 2011 and have had widespread success since — including performing at the Pitch Perfect premiere in 2012. The group revealed exclusively to EW that they spent one 12-hour day on the Pitch Perfect 2 set and that they'll be playing the rival group to Beca and the Barden Bellas. Pentatonix were cast in the 2015 sequel by the same publicist that organized their premiere performance, Deke Sharon, who arranged music for both The Sing-Off and Pitch Perfect, and, like most shows and films these days — fans. Apparently, there was an outcry from fans on Twitter that contributed to Pentatonix's casting.

The group won't be getting any dialogue in Pitch Perfect 2, but they did get to arrange their own song which the producers thought was "really cool." Even though Pentatonix is possibly the most popular a cappella group in the United States so it makes perfect sense for them to join a film about a cappella, I couldn't help but wonder which other singing competition winners might be a great fit for Pitch Perfect. I mean, they're obviously going to make a third one, right?

X Factor Season 3 Winners — Alex & Sierra

Alex and Sierra won everyone over on the most recent season of The X Factor — including perpetual sour-puss Simon Cowell. But how great would it be for them to be a bitchy brother-sister duo heading an a cappella group that sings only deconstructed Britney Spears covers? Now that's aca-awesome.

The Voice Season 3 Winner — Cassadee Pope

If anything, Becca will get some hairstyle inspiration from Pope. The 24-year-old singer was the first woman to win The Voice in 2012 (girl power) and I know you can totally see her fronting a group that specializes in Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert. She does have that Hey Monday band experience already under her belt.

The Sing-Off Season 2 Winners — Committed

They've been out of college for a few years now — but the young men of Committed were all students at Oakwood University when they auditioned and won The Sing-Off in 2010. That's authenticity right there and this Maroon 5 cover is amazing.

The X Factor UK Season 8 Winners — Little Mix

These girls became the first group to win The X Factor UK when they competed in 2011 and well, for good reason. The Bellas aren't the only girl group with skills.

The X Factor UK Season 7 — One Direction

Okay, so One Direction didn't win The X Factor this season, but they did come in third place. And how great would it be to see Beca and the Bellas slinging insults at Harry Styles? C'mon, you know you'd love it.
