Matt Is Going To Mars

by Mallory Schlossberg

For all of you folks out there who wish to believe that Matt Damon will only be Jason Bourne and/or Will Hunting forever, unfortunately, it's time to admit the truth to yourself and remember that he's been in more than a handful of other projects — some successful (Behind The Candelabra, Saving Private Ryan) and some others... not so much (The Legend of Bagger Vance, Monuments Men). Now, he's adding a new role to his list of Roles That Are Not Jason Bourne or Will Hunting, as Damon is set to star in Ridley Scott's The Martian , a sci-fi movie that will take place on — shocker! — Mars.

The movie, which is set to start filming in the fall for a 2015 release, is based on a book of the same title by Andy Weir. It's a familiar lost-in-the-wilderness-survival story (think along the lines of Gravity), except for the fact that it's on Mars, where things tend to be hella different from how they are on Earth. For instance, there are no Kind bars. (Or are there?? Never underestimate the power of a Kind bar.)

Well, at least we now know what Matt Damon is doing instead of returning to the Bourne franchise. He's going to Mars.
