From Litchfield to .... Brooklyn?

by Maitri Suhas

Your favorite foul-mouthed, tender-hearted Litchfield inmate is moving to Brooklyn: One of the many beloved stars of Orange Is the New Black, Natasha Lyonne will guest star on Season 4 of HBO's Girls. She's the second OITNB cast member to make an appearance on Lena Dunham's show: in Season 3, Danielle Brookes, aka Taystee, played a girl in rehab who is, ahem, sexually awakened by Jessa. (I guess Jessa was playing essentially Natasha Lyonne's OITNB role in that episode?)

So it appears that Dunham has found her new casting pool — Orange Is the New Black! Reportedly, Lyonne will play a character named "Ricky," but god, would I love to see a straight crossover with Lyonne playing her Litchfield role of Nicky Nichols, wreaking havoc on Hannah Horvath's comfy, cushy pseudo starving artist lifestyle. It would be a slap in the face for the ages.

I imagine Nichols somehow getting out of Litchfield, becoming unfortunately tangled with Horvath, who would probably try to use Nichols as material for her writing. "Prison sounds so interesting," Horvath would gush, outfitted in a strappy romper. To which Nichols would be like, "You're complaining because you don't know if you should go to graduate school or stay in your enormous Greenpoint apartment?" And then she'd spontaneously combust at the ridiculousness of it all.

Or so I can dream! Whoever "Ricky" is, Lyonne is definitely gonna bring her signature rough-around-the-edges but undoubtedly good at heart charm to the role. Who else from Litchfield would make a great Girls guest star? Probably any and everyone — Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) trying to make Hannah her new Piper, maybe? Or — and this would be truly magnificent — Hannah Horvath in an OITNB crossover, sent to Litchfield on a writing assignment and just getting her shit rocked. That'd be good TV.

Other guest stars for Girls season 4 as of now include Zachary Quinto, Gillian Jacobs, and Jason Ritter, adding to a long and impressive list of former cameos that include Gaby Hoffman, Chris O'Dowd, Patti Lupone, Donald Glover and June Squibb. That Dunham's got friends in all the right places, it seems.
