Wanna Dance Like Tim Howard?

by Mallory Schlossberg

So, if you've been watching the World Cup because you're super into sports— or because you like gathering around a bar or eating copious amounts of snacks in group settings, no shame — then you probably know that Tim Howard is the United States' goalie. There are a number of reasons to celebrate how awesome he is. First of all, he's incredibly skilled — did you see that crazy save he made in the game versus Portugal? (Yeah, we know — those last few seconds made it a heartbreaking game, but at least that we have that victorious moment). He's crazy good! Even people who don't know much about sports can watch him play and easily say that he's a BOSS when it comes to goalkeeping. Second of all, he's an animal rights activist. Third of all, he's inadvertently become a dance master.

If you're like, whaaat?, let me clarify. Somehow, Howard always seems like he's doing some sort of awesome dance. His saves and his goalkeeping moves pretty much encapsulate what — if you piece them together — could be the dance craze of the decade! I'm talking, something that's bigger than The Cotton Eye Joe, The Cha-Cha Slide, or — dare I say it — The Macarena. So what better way to cheer him and the US World Cup team than by doing...

The Tim Howard.

This is how you do it.

(Goal and ball not necessary. This dance is prop-free.)

Put your hands up

Heyy-o. Put your hands up! The classic move. You can also raise the roof here.

Brush the dirt off your shoulders

Brush that dirt off yo shoulders!

Stop to breakdance!

A much harder-to-accomplish move, but if you can do it, GO FOR IT. You'll wow everyone at parties.

Get Low, Get Low, Get Low

Extra points for bending your knees like that.

Do The Breast Stroke

An update from the classic "The Swim" move.

KICK!

An obvious move for soccer, but also so theatrical. Keep your kick low to keep it dance floor friendly. You don't want to kick your friend in the face. If you're doing this in the comfort of your own home, then by all means, feel free to do your best high kick.

FREEZE.

Everybody clap your hands!

Just a shout out to The Cha-Cha Slide, of course.

Now Walk It Out

And Of Course, End With A Pose

Well done, everyone! (Especially you, Tim Howard. But that goes without saying.)
