Check Out the New 'Giver' Poster

by Alanna Bennett

The road to adapting a classic piece of childhood or young adult literature can be a bumpy one. Just ask the people behind the adaptation of The Giver, who were confronted by confusion and outrage when the first trailer for the film was in full-blown color as opposed to the greyscale many readers of the book had ben expecting. As our coverage of the trailer asked, "Will The Giver be just another YA dystopian flop?" That's yet to be seen — but the newest poster for The Giver should at least assure fans that the film won't be full technicolor all the time.

The film comes out Aug 15 and stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgard, Odeya Rush, Katie Holmes, and Taylor Swift. Like those aforementioned other dystopian young adult adaptations, it follows a young person as they confront the flaws in their society, and the tagline of the new poster reflects that with a "Search for truth, find freedom."

The film's past posters carried a similar theme to this one, with slivers of color peeking out through the character's faces. This one features Thwaites and Rush in full color as Bridges and Streep take up the backgrounds like mighty overlooking mountains.
