The Obamas Remember Their First Date Movie

Monday marks the 25th anniversary of Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing. The 1989 drama explored racial tensions and received multiple academy awards, and it's prominent on many best movie lists. But it's reached a whole new level of cultural significance: it was Michelle and Barack's first date movie. Isn't that the cutest image? Apparently, they saw it in Chicago when they were working at the same law firm. Michelle called it their "first official date."

At a few events celebrating the anniversary, Lee shared a video message from Michelle and Barack. Their back and forth is super cute. "He was trying to show me his sophisticated side by selecting an independent filmmaker," says Michelle. "So Spike," continues Barack, "thank you for helping me impress Michelle, and thank you for telling a powerful story." Obama then jokes about the fact that both he and Lee are both older and a lot less obscure than they used to be before praising Lee for "holding up a mirror to our society."

Aren't they just the cutest? For those who haven't seen the film, it's available on Amazon Instant Video.
