Jessica's Wedding Had a "Chicken or Fish" Moment

by Lia Beck

As you may have heard (ya know, if you weren't too busy enjoying the long weekend or attending the wedding of people you actually know), Jessica Simpson got married on Saturday. After four years of engagement, Simpson tied the knot with her fiancé Eric Johnson in a ceremony that took place at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara County, Calif. Simpson wore a custom Carolina Herrera dress. The whole thing sounds beautiful and perfect, but there was one moment that went a little awry in a classic Jessica Simpson way. According to E! News, Simpson flubbed her vows and it is very reminiscent of her "is this chicken or is this fish" moment. In the best way, of course.

Reportedly, when Simpson got to the part of the vows where you say your significant other's name, she was nervous and accidentally said her own name. Following her mistake, "she laughed it off and started over again."

It's so easy to imagine how this went down and I don't mean in a "Haha. She's probably said, 'Is it my name I'm supposed to say, or is it your name?' sort of way." I just mean that the way Simpson talks is so particular and after seeing something like the famous chicken or fish clip, it's not hard to imagine her southern accent and the endearing reaction she probably had when she realized the flub.

Because, of course, I can't talk about the Chicken of the Sea Incident of 2003 without showing you the video clip. Here it is for your viewing pleasure:

Hopefully she didn't say, "Don't make fun of me right now. I'm not in the mood," when Johnson or her father, who officiated the wedding, giggled at her mistake.

As for the rest of the wedding, it sounds like everything went wonderfully. Simpson and Johnson's children participated with Maxwell, 2, as a flower girl and Ace, 1, as the ring bearer. The 5-year-old son of Simpson's sister, Ashlee, also took part in the ceremony and walked down the aisle with Maxwell. The couple invited over 250 guests including Ashlee and her fiancé Evan Ross, Topher Grace, Jessica Alba, Simpson's friend CaCee Cobb and her husband Donald Faison.

It sounds like the many, many guests left with some pretty awesome party favors. Reportedly, "When guests exited the wedding, women were given rose-colored leather totes. They were filled with items personally designed by Jessica, including sunglasses." Well, when you have a multi-million dollar fashion line, you aren't going to not give away some of your own items.

Simpson and Johnson released a statement to People following their wedding which reads,

We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love having made our eternal commitment To say 'I do' in front of family, friends and, most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives.

The magazine also got an official photo of Simpson in her gown:

Simpson has come a long way since her "chicken or fish" comment and her wedding sounds great. It's impossible to know if Simpson still makes flubs all the time and just doesn't have them caught on tape anymore, but maybe we'll find out if this is a trend after Ashlee's upcoming wedding. "Are we supposed to take a sip of champagne before or after I make the toast?" Simpson might say.

Just kidding! Congrats, Jessica! In honor of your new marriage, I promise to put the Chicken of the Sea incident in the past from now on.
