GRRM Would Like You To F*** Off

by Alanna Bennett

The end of the Song Of Ice and Fire series is a long time coming. A very long time coming, in fact, partly because we don't know yet when it is coming. But author George R. R. Martin has a message for those who doubt his ability to finish the series before he dies: "Fuck you."

Martin, known by fans of the series and its accompanying HBO adaptation Game Of Thrones for mercilessly killing off major characters, would like everyone to please stop speculating about how soon he's going to die. Keep the untimely death fictional, basically. As he told Swiss newspaper Tagesanzeiger:

I find that question pretty offensive, people speculating about my death and my health. I say fuck you to those people.

If you think about it, we did the same thing to John McCain when he was in his early 70s and running for president in 2008. Fox News and their conservative ilk are already on rabid health watch for 66-year-old Hillary Clinton, and she hasn't even announced a run for office yet. Martin is 65, what New York Magazine recently referred to as "middle old age." It should be noted that he's also not running for president of a major world power; he's just got a lot of pressure on him to finish his fantasy series.

If it offers Martin any solace, I was afraid I was going to die before the last Harry Potter book came out. I wasn't ill, or injured, or old; I was just desperate to know what happened and was afraid I'd have to resort to haunting J.K. Rowling in the afterlife to get it done. Sometimes love of stories take us to illogical places.

Keep on, keepin' on, George.
