Starz Cancels Another Series After Two Seasons

Chances are you never watched a single episode of Magic City. In fact, chances are you never even spoke a word about Magic City except for that one time star Danny Huston managed to snag a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes. (And, even at that point, most of the chatter surrounded the question, "What is Magic City?")

But, if you're hoping to find out what the series is about, you'll have to start marathoning it soon — on Monday came word that the Starz series, which had a small but loyal fanbase, is ending its run after two seasons. And very abruptly as well — the network confirmed to Deadline that Magic City, about the mob-led goings-ons at a Miami hotel in 1959, will see its final episode air Friday.

Said Starz in a statement, "We are tremendously proud of the series and everyone involved. From the writers, to the cast and crew, it has been an incredible collaboration. This was a story born from Mitch Glazer’s singular vision of Miami, the Magic City of his childhood, and we are grateful to him for bringing it to life on Starz. The season’s story arc will allow us to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series, and we thank all the fans who checked in to the Miramar Playa."

Magic City, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, follows in the footsteps of Starz dramas like Boss, another series given two full seasons before being cut off by the network. With Spartacus being the network's one true hit, perhaps Starz should begin looking to centuries outside of the 20th one for their next series.
