The Emmy-Nominated Lizzy Caplan's 10 Best Looks

by Rosie Narasaki

As always, the annunciation of Emmy nominations is both cause for celebration and disappointment (not to mention everything between). Though let's not dwell on the negative (I CAN'T GET OVER MINDY KALING'S MULTI-CATEGORY SNUBS, but I'll leave that to the critics), and take a look at someone worth celebrating: Lizzy Caplan.

She's been on our collective radar ever since she stole our hearts as the acid-tongued Janis Ian in Mean Girls back in '04 (and for fans of the late Freaks and Geeks, she made an even earlier appearance in '99 as Nick Andopolis's disco-loving girlfriend), and now, after sowing quite the career, she's finally reaping some well-deserved awards nominations.

Yes, she had quite the season on Masters of Sex, playing one of the most complicated women on TV. She wasn't exactly a shoo-in for the Emmy (Caplan herself was "SHOCKED, and really, really excited" and mentioned that pre-6am champagne might be in order), but there's no denying the fact that her performance was worth a nod.

Masters of Sex picked up a few more acting noms (Alison Janney and Beau Bridges), and though Michael Sheen was one of the most notable snubs of the morning, the show did pretty well for itself, what with its (slightly) unexpected lead actress nomination. So in honor of her first Emmy shout out, let's take a look at some of Caplan's best fashion moments to date.

Her hair looks great a little undone, and the bright red shoes keep the look from veering too bridal. Also, the lace detailing on the slightly fishtailed hem is gorgeous.

Crop toppin' with aplomb.

8. In J. Mendel

This coral-colored body-con number looks amazing — she doesn't usually seem to go for brights, but she can sure wear them well!

What with the wavy bob and the sheer, pleated floral print, it's a much softer look on her... and she's totally pulling it off.

This look may be a little too on the nose (it looks like it could have been plucked right out of the late '50s/early '60s — even her hair is distressingly close to the 'do she sports on the show), but hey: Retro works on her.

Another colorful body-con number — it looks kind of like a starfleet uniform, but in the best way possible.

Again, her accessorizing is super on point, with those graphic black and white shoes bringing out the best in this mini-caped dress.

Houndstooth is great, and houndstooth squared is even better. I also love her strappy statement sandals and gold belt!

2. In Emilio Pucci

Guess the Golden Globes are as good a place as any to go big! Edgy-futuristic should be her go-to look.

I don't want to throw around hyperbole too much, but this might just be my favorite dress ever. Who knew butterflies could be so darned cool? Also, rainbow feathered collar!
