Obama Responds to That Whole Impeachment Thing

by L. Turner

Looks like the president isn't too worried. On Thursday, in a speech that touched on calls for his impeachment, Barack Obama responded: "Really? For what? You're going to sue me for doing my job? Okay." Obama made the remarks in Austin, Texas at the city's Paramount Theatre on the last day of trip to Colorado and Texas. And this is basically his version of saying "Turn down for what?"

House Republicans are currently in the process of suing Obama for delaying the Affordable Care Act's employer mandate and Sarah Palin made headlines this week by calling for his impeachment. (She also compared America unfavorably to a Spanish-speaking "battered wife," which is its own gigantic problem.)

In the speech, Obama defended his use of executive orders to get things done in the face of a stagnant Congress. He said he's taking executive action because the Republican House and Democratic Senate can't seem to get any significant legislation passed.

The truth is, even with all the actions I’ve taken this year, I’m issuing executive orders at the lowest rate in more than 100 years. So it’s not clear how it is that Republicans didn’t seem to mind when President Bush took more executive actions than I did.

He later claimed it made him kind of sad.

It is lonely, me just doing stuff. I’d love if the Republicans did stuff, too.

Of course, there were plenty of calls to impeach George W. Bush, too. But The Washington Post noted that those calls were quickly shut down by Rep. Nancy Pelosi. This time, Boehner's not been quite so direct about the whole thing, Aaron Blake writes. In response to Palin's impeachment call, he only said "I disagree."

Obama also used his Austin speech to quote the movie The Departed, because this is 2014 and the Obama quotes The Departed now I guess. And as Politico reports, hecklers who interrupted the president during his speech promised them he'd talk to them afterward...and then told the Secret Service not to make them leave.

I’m on your side, man. Sit down, guys, we’ll talk about it later, I promise. ... You don’t have to escort them out. They’ll sit down. I promise, I’ll talk to you afterwards.

Earlier in the speech, he quipped, "I don't have to run for office again, so I can just let her rip."

Yep, this is the same American president who keeps slipping out of the White House and yelling that he's a bear on the loose.
