Check Out A Haunting New Remix of "Chandelier"

by Alex Kritselis

Sia Furler is basically having the best week ever. Music industry experts say that Sia's new album, 1000 Forms of Fear , could debut at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart next week. Meanwhile, the album's stellar lead single, "Chandelier," currently sits at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart — Sia's first (and thus, highest) charting song as a lead artist (though she's written a number of hits for others). Yeah, it's good to be Sia.

On Thursday, Sia took to her Facebook page to promote the brand new, Spotify-exclusive Dev Hynes remix of "Chandelier" — and it might completely change the way that you look at the song. By chopping up Sia's vocals (and even adding a few of his own), and adding some brooding synths and a downtempo beat, British producer Hynes totally changes up the atmosphere of the track. Now, the song's rather haunting (and even a little bit spooky).

The original version of "Chandelier" juxtaposes the tragic story of a lonely, out of control party girl with soaring, up-tempo production. It's a fascinating contrast, to be sure. On the flip side, the production on Hynes' remix really brings out and highlights the melancholy present in Sia's lyrics. It actually sounds more like an entirely new song than a remix. It's awesome! How high can "Chandelier" climb on the Billboard Hot 100? We'll have to wait and see, but I'm hoping that it can become Sia's first top 10 single.
