Her Family is Connected to a Spielberg Classic

by Aly Semigran

Chelsea Handler is the latest celebrity to participate in Entertainment Weekly's Pop Culture Personality Test. (The very same online segment that got Channing Tatum to reveal he's still traumatized by the Large Marge scene in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure). And while you can learn some little tidbits about the soon-to-be-Netflix talk show host — like that her first crush was Christian Bale and that she loves to quote Julia Roberts movies (Pretty Woman and Erin Brockovich, in particular) — the most noteworthy thing revealed in the video is that the 39-year-old comedian/writer has a connection to Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic thriller Jaws .

When asked what her all-time favorite movie is, Handler cited the summer must-watch Jaws, but it's not for a reason you'd expect. Handler isn't some sort of secret killer great white shark enthusiast, rather, the movie's chilling opening sequence was filmed in front of her family's Martha's Vineyard house. She also mentions that Susan Backlinie — the actress who played the doomed skinny dipper Chrissie in Jaws — was a friend's of Handler's sister.

Handler shares some additional cool behind-the-scenes trivia, but she really sums up why everybody — personally connected to Jaws or not — enjoys that movie: "I mean, I just love watching it. I love all of that."
