Beauty Advice From Our Favorite Models

by Tyler Atwood

Summer may bring many beautiful things with it each year, but without fail, it also guarantees a parade of inhumanly beautiful supermodels gracing the covers of every magazine from Harper's Bazaar to Shape. Some of these incredibly blessed superstars refuse to reveal their secrets for that particular glow, stating that they eat junk food and haven't exercised a day in their lives, assertions which most female readers face with a combination of disbelief and fury. After all, it takes more than an occasional five-minute walk or your average bar of soap to look your most luminous.

However, the sea of generalities which models seem to give to interviewers is occasionally punctuated by a few grains of truth, whether it be a confessional that a perfect tan came out of a bottle, or that oil-blotting papers are the item to carry with you during the summer. So for those who wish to gain a supermodel-esque glow this summer, here are 11 fantastic beauty tips from the most beautiful women in fashion.

1. KATE MOSS'S ANTI-SUN DAMAGE PSA

According to Ms. Moss, there is such a thing as sun damage, which she admitted in a chat with Sunday Times:

I had this one disaster — last Easter, when I went to Parrot Cay for two weeks. I got so brown that when I came home everyone laughed at me. I looked ridiculous… Now I have factor 50.

2. CANDICE SWANEPOEL'S #NOMAKEUP VACATIONS

The model explained to Vogue UK that she gives her skin and hair extra TLC on vacation by eschewing makeup and using reparative treatments for her locks:

When I'm on holiday, I try to take a break from make-up…Because I'm in the ocean all the time, I use a lot of different oils and conditioning creams on my hair.

3. TYRA BANKS ON BEATING SUMMER HUMIDITY

The Top Model expert suggested giving your face a cool-down before heading out the door in an interview with BET:

Before you leave the house, take a washcloth, wet it, ring it out real hard, and push that washcloth all around your face, and it kind-of absorbs all of the excess powder and it also sets your face really well.

4. GISELE BUNDCHEN ON THE PERFECT SMOKY EYE

Though Gisele has a team of experts to thank for her seemingly effortless glamour, she gave Elle readers a little hint about perfecting the smoky eye:

If you're wearing smoky eye makeup, a little beige or gold pencil on the inner eye corners will open up the area, but you only want to do it if the shadow is really dark.

5. CHANEL IMAN ON LOOKING SHARP WHILE TRAVELING

Due to her constant globe-trotting, Chanel Iman explained to Allure that she relies on oils and ointments to keep her skin dewy and fresh:

I use Rosebud Salve on my lips, and I always travel with Rodin oil. You just put a drop in your hands or drop it in the bath and it makes your skin extra soft and glow-y.

Jourdan Dunn may be one of the world's preeminent models these days, but she promised in an interview with Vogue UK that her enviable looks are thanks in part to her favorite face masks:

I am totally obsessed with masks. I'd say I use two different types of mask twice a week - that's what I'll splash out on. I love Sisley Radiant Glow Express Mask, GlamGlow and the Rodial Glamoxy Snake Mask. That's the one that you really see a difference from.

7. ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO'S HYDRATION OBSESSION

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Ms. Ambrosio praised the powers of hydration for their beauty-giving abilities:

When you are dehydrated, you see it on your face and when you've had your share of water, it glows. Nothing is better for your skin than drinking a lot of water and green juices.

After two decades in the modeling industry, Heidi Klum loves a streamlined beauty routine, but told Refinery29 she can't live without good oil blotters:

I’ve been telling people about blotting paper because that’s something I love. Instead of staying dry by reapplying powder over powder and powder, you take the oil off. I think that’s a great trick that people forget about. I love the Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets and Victoria’s Secret does a simple one.

9. DOUTZEN KROES'S VITAMIN FIX

The blond beauty credits her glow — and her fitness — to vitamins and fresh-pressed juices, telling Vogue UK:

I always take Vitamin C and then I have a routine of these three shakes every morning.

10. MIRANDA KERR'S SHINY HAIR TRICKS

Miranda Kerr's voluminous locks are the envy of, well, everyone, but the model told Into The Gloss that she owes its brilliance to a few easy, at-home tricks:

Hair-wise, I love using coconut oil as a treatment and apple cider vinegar for shininess—you put on a little bit in the shower as a rinse, and then wash it out.

11. CINDY CRAWFORD'S ESSENTIAL BEAUTY INGREDIENT

You simply don't get more legendary than Cindy Crawford, and her secret ingredient to that healthy, beautiful glow? It may not be what you'd think, she explained to Shape Magazine:

I try to eat 80 percent right 80 percent of the time and this seems to work for me. But probably the most important thing is to be living your life with gratitude. When you are grateful, you can’t help being happy.
