The Craziest Celebrity Ensembles Of The Week

by Tyler Atwood

Everyone has days when they're not the best dressed in the room. Whether you decided to throw on your last clean ensemble or simply made the wrong sartorial choice, even the most fashionable have slip-ups occasionally. Unfortunately for celebrities, many of these less-than-flawless looks are captured on film thanks to photographers on the red carpet. But what would life be without fashionable mistakes? Putting together a daring ensemble, however misguided the attempt may be, is all in the name of experimentation and the bliss of finding perfect pieces that flatter.

In honor of the "Worst Dressed List", I've culled together a "Craziest Dressed List", which calls into question not the beauty or style of the celebrity wearing each, but rather the sanity and attention to detail of whomever threw the look together. Each of these Hollywood starlets has graced the red carpet in beautiful, memorable looks which had critics swooning at first sight, but as it so happens, this week wasn't their finest. From collage-like dresses to pieces which look as if they've been torn apart by rabid animals, the week has proved to be extraordinarily bold in terms of fashion. Read on for the week's craziest celebrity ensembles, and remember to look on with compassion; after all, we've all been there.

1. RASHIDA JONES

Color blocking may be a trend for a reason, but Rashida Jones' ensemble takes the trend extraordinarily literally. Next time, a pair of white trousers would polish off this look to perfection.

2. DIANE KRUGER

Anyone who enjoyed Girl Scouts knows the power of a well-earned stitch-on badge, but an entire dress made out of them seems eccentric, to say the least.

3. CAMERON DIAZ

I adore Cameron Diaz's fearless, indie style, but this tie-dyed towel dress? It's best left to those who don't have her mastery of fashion.

4. TARA REID

This just in: there's a new trend for summer 2014, and its distressed — or distressing — dresses. With its beautiful, watercolor pattern, this little number could easily have been a knockout if it weren't for the oddly placed mesh panels and unfinished material draped at the sides.

5. AUDREY TAUTOU

Audrey Tautou can do almost no wrong in my opinion, but the flesh tone of this leather dress gives the distinct impression that the actress is simply wearing a purple bow tie from far away.

6. AMANZA SMITH BROWN

You'd think that all eyes would be on Taye Diggs's new love at the ESPY's this weekend, but really, the attention was directed towards her dress. With a more uniform sequin distribution, the look could have been utterly glamorous, but as-is, a strategically-placed strip of sequins at the bust and bikini make the model look as if she's attempting a modernized mermaid look. Or perhaps she's simply directing attention.
