RNC Finds Unlikely Ally in Opposing Hillary Docs

Media Matters for America — a media watchdog group that spends a good deal of its resources chastising Fox News for unfair reporting — has found a strange bedfellow in the Republican National Committee this week.

Media Matters has joined the RNC in calling on TV news networks NBC and CNN to drop their plans to air a series of programming centered on likely 2016 Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton. NBC has a mini-series on on Clinton in the works, while CNN is planning a full-length documentary. Both have been scheduled to air in the fall of 2016. RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has threatened not to allow NBC and CNN to participate in the 2016 Republican Primary debates if they do not pull the programming.

Media Matters founder David Brock sent a letter to each network, saying, "the timing raises too many questions about fairness and conflicts of interest ahead of the 2016 election." As Slate points out, however, there may also be other motivations at work here. They speculate that Brock's letters are really driven by the fear that allowing the Clinton programming to air will only serve to fuel Republican fundraising efforts.
