Another season of The Bachelorette came to an end on Monday night, and this time, it was a unique finale. Desiree Hartsock had fallen completely in love with Brooks Forester, a charming, outgoing, handsome guy, comparable to your traditional popular high school hottie. In the penultimate episode, Brooks rejected Desiree, leaving her to choose from the final two contestants. The winner turned out to be Brooks' complete opposite, the sensitive, poetry-writing, also handsome Chris Siegfried.
It was something out of a movie, the caring poet wins the girl from the popular hunk. It's actually something out of many movies, and it's a bit of a cliche. Here are some of the films where the sweet guy unexpectedly gets the girl. Now this season of The Bachelorette will join them to give hope to all of the poets, nerds and best friends out there waiting to get noticed by their dream girl.

'The Princess Diaries'
Before every young girl wanted to be Kate Middleton, they wanted to be Mia Thermopolis, a 16-year-old who discovers she is the princess of Genovia—and the granddaughter of Julia Andrews. When nerdy Mia receives a royal makeover and becomes famous, she finally gets the attention of her longtime crush, played by early 2000s heartthrob and Brink! star Erik von Detten. It's bad news for her best friend's shy, musician brother, Michael, who liked Mia for who she really was the whole time. Aww. In the end, Mia chooses fellow outcast Michael over the popular guy...and becomes the leader of a small country.

'She's Out of My League'
The title of this one says it all, as Jay Baruchel's unlucky-in-love TSA agent Kirk falls in love with a beautiful girl who forgets her cellphone in his terminal. Even after some dumb movie mishaps, including a run-in with her super hot but total jerk ex, the beautiful Molly likes nice guy Kirk, and it's his own lack of confidence that leads to his undoing. Eventually, Kirk gets the courage to win Molly back and the two literally fly off together.

'Drive Me Crazy'
Ah yes, the ultimate movie of 1999. Drive Me Crazy both stars Sabrina the teenaged-witch and has the same title as a Britney Spears song. The concept of the movie is best friends, neighbors and fellow children of single parents (it becomes relevant) semi-popular Nicole (Melissa Joan Hart) and non-conformist Chase (pre-Entourage Adrian Grenier) pretend to date each other to make their crushes jealous. Their plan works, but they don't care because surprise! They've fallen in love with each other instead. And so the movie ends with them as a couple — and their parents also as a couple, potentially making them stepbrother and stepsister. Kind of puts a damper on things.

'Shrek'
Sensitive guy who's into poetry, ogre, it's all the same! In Shrek, Princess Fiona is supposed to marry the obnoxious Lord Farquaad, but falls in love with the lovable ogre Shrek instead. Of course it helps that at night she turns into an ogre, too. Either way, true love wins and Shrek gains a wife, donkey best friend, and endless string of sequels.

'There's Something About Mary'
There is actually more to this movie than that infamous "hair gel" scene. Almost every guy she meets falls in love Cameron Diaz's Mary, including Ben Stiller's Ted, who was supposed to take her to prom when he was a nerdy high schooler — until that other famous scene happens, ya know, with the zipper. Anyway, as an adult, Mary still has her choice of men, including a pre-sexting scandal Brett Favre, but still goes with the well-intentioned Ted.

'Burning Love'
For those not familiar, Burning Love is a webseries that mocks The Bachelor and all of its incarnations with the help of various comedians and celebrities, including Ben Stiller, Adam Brody, Kristen Bell and more. Funnily enough, the second season of Burning Love, which parodies The Bachelorette, had almost the exact same situation as this season's Bachelorette Desiree. When Julie's favorite guy, the hot asshole Blaze, decides to leave the house, more than once, Julie must pick between the two remaining men. She goes with the overly-emotional single father Alex. Spoiler alert: in this Bachelorette's case, it didn't last long. About two minutes to be exact.
