5 Scary New Characters From 'AHS: Freak Show'

by Sofia Barrett-Ibarria

The cast of American Horror Story: Freak Show appeared at Comic Con 2014 to discuss the freaky details of Season 4. Cast members Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Michael Chiklis, Evan Peters, and Executive Producer Tim Minear held a panel discussion revealing new information about what we'll see next season and confirmed the characters they'd be playing in what could possibly be the most terrifying season of AHS thus far. Though they did share quite a bit about the horrifying creatures that will no doubt haunt our dreams for the duration of Season 4, it seems the cast is being careful about which details, exactly, to reveal at this time. We still aren't sure whether or not Neil Patrick Harris will join the cast, and there have also been rumors that Naomi Grossman, who played Pepper in Season 2, will return to the cast this season after an unofficial call sheet was reportedly leaked.

There's still a lot we don't know about the upcoming season, but we do know it's going to be scarier than ever. The characters revealed to be appearing in Season 4 are sure to be creep you out and prevent you from sleeping again, ever. Make sure to plug in your nightlight before you check out the creepiest characters that will definitely appear on AHS: Freak Show. You'll need it.

Desiree Dupree

Angela Bassett plays Desiree Dupree, wife of the strong man Wendell del Toredo, played by Michael Chiklis. Doesn't sound too scary, but probably will be.

Ethel Darling

Kathy Bates will appear as Ethel Darling, Wendell del Toredo's ex-wife. Her son, Jimmy, is played by Evan Peters. If Bates' role as Delphine LaLaurie in American Horror Story: Coven was any indication, you should go ahead and refill that Ambien prescription because you probably won't be sleeping a lot once Season 4 gets going.

Bette and Dot

Sarah Paulson plays conjoined twins Bette and Dot, because two Sarah Paulsons are always better than one.

Elsa Mars

Jessica Lange appears as Elsa Mars, the leader of a freak show in 1950's Jupiter, Florida. Already terrified.

The Villain

It's not entirely clear who (or what) the villain in AHS: Freak Show will be, but Vulture's E. Alex Jung reports that they'll be played by John Carroll Lynch and "will rival Rubber Man, Bloody Face, and the Minotaur from the previous three seasons in terms of pure horror." Back in May, Ryan Murphy mentioned that we'd be seeing a "Clown Killer" in Season 4 which he promised would be "the most terrifying clown ever", so an evil clown villain is a terrifying possibility. Whoever the villain is, AHS executive producer Tim Minear says, "He will scare the shit out of you". Goodbye, sleep. I'll miss you.
