Kurt Cobain Biopic Still Seeking A Lead Actor

by Sofia Barrett-Ibarria

Earlier this July, Courtney Love revealed that production on a Kurt Cobain biopic is scheduled to begin in 2015. This won't be the first-ever Cobain-inspired film to go into production, but it will have Love's official stamp of approval: Ryan Kristobak of HuffPost reports that Love and daughter Frances Bean will be closely involved with both casting and production of the film, which focuses on the life of the Nirvana frontman. According to an interview with the Phillipine Daily Inquirer , Love is currently in the midst of an extensive casting process, though Spin reports she has been hinting at a Cobain biopic since as early as 2007.

Reportedly, she's been inundated by a "flood of requests" from actors who want to portray the rock icon, but the role of her late husband has not yet been filled. Kristobak writes that Ryan Gosling, Robert Pattinson, Ewan McGregor and Jared Leto have previously been named as potential options for the role of Cobain, but Love says she's extremely selective about who will be given the opportunity to play him: "[...]these boys are so pretty, so cute. I won’t name names because I don’t want to jinx it for anyone but these are 25-year-olds who are blond, gorgeous and the new Brad Pitts. There’s a ton of those[...]Some beautiful blond, tragic, gorgeous actor boy is hitting on me, and why? He wants to play Kurt."

Though Love asserts that she will most definitely "have a say" in the casting process, she adds, "I am not Cecil B. DeMille or anything like that. I don’t want to be the producer per se[...]the person who makes that decision. Let’s leave that to the agents”.
