Paul Rudd's Pretty Bummed About Edgar Wright

by Alanna Bennett

The shitstorm that followed Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man is still reverberating through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was exemplified in the "underwhelming" welcome new director Peyton Reed received at Ant-Man's Comic-Con panel. And now Ant-Man star and America's sweetheart Paul Rudd's finally opened up about Edgar Wright's departure from the film. Just when I thought I was getting over it, Paul Rudd's gotta bum me out all over again.

First, the optimistic side, as Rudd relayed it at Comic-Con:

[The film has] opened up and grown in such a new and exciting way. And I also know Peyton [Reed], and Peyton is a really smart, really passionate visionary when it comes to this kind of stuff. He's a comic book fan, he knows the world, this was his 20th Comic-Con. So while it wasn't terra firma there for awhile, my enthusiasm and excitement and passion is certainly there for where we're at now, and what Peyton's gonna do.

Well that's nice, at least! So how does Rudd feel about Edgar Wright not being around anymore?

Well, it's been...it was pretty bumpy for sure. I'm really sad about it. Edgar's brilliant, and Edgar brought me on. Edgar's my friend. I mean, I still talk to Edgar just about every day, almost.

At least he'll get to cuddle up to Corey Stoll and Evangeline Lilly behind-the-scenes? But oh, the press tour bromance that could have been.
