The 'Blurred Lines' Stages of Denial

We all know that Robin Thicke's hit summer single "Blurred Lines" has seen pretty much all the controversy possible. There were definitely moments when we wondered who signed off on such a misogynistic, ridiculous song, but thankfully, it's come out that Interscope Records agreed with us, not Thicke. As Robin Thicke said in his interview with The Associated Press, "The record company didn't get it. They didn't even pay for the video. They didn't want to support it at all." Well ... at least that shows someone had some sense when it comes to "Blurred Lines."

But maybe this shows that we all went through the same stages with "Blurred Lines." God knows I didn't like it the first time I heard it, but within the week I was blasting it in my Subaru, wishing that I, too, was a naked model in Keds, or Pharrell (but mostly Pharrell.) There's definitely a stages-of-"Blurred-Lines"-approval thing happening here, and if the record company felt it too, then it's definitely a thing.

Stages of "Blurred Lines" Acceptance

1) What is this shit? Are my ears being assaulted? WTF. I DON'T LIKE THIS.

2) But for some reason I'm playing it again.

3) And now I'm dancing to it? Uh ... I guess it's alright.

4) Oh shit. IF YA CAN'T HEEEAAARRR, WHAT I'M TRYNAA SAAAYYY, IF YOU CAN'T BREAAAATTHHEEE (are those the words? I don't care, this song is freakin' CATCHY!)

5) Whoa dude, some of these lyrics though ... I shouldn't like this.

6) BABY I'M GOIN' CRAZY, BABY I'M GOIN' BLIND, BABY I'M OUTTA MY MIIIHHIIIHIIIHIIIINNDDD

7) Clearly I really like this song.

8) I accept this.
