Missy Elliott's New Album Could Arrive Soon

by Kenya Foy

Gray clouds and thunderstorms tend to bring me down, but when Missy Elliott released "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)," it showed me that aside from moping and sleeping the entire day away, there was a more creative alternative to coping with my aversion to wet, dreary weather. Basically, Missy Elliott's music is sonic sunshine and I desperately need more of it in my life. Back in February, Elliott hinted that she might release new music sometime in the near future, but her longtime partner in musical crime Timbaland told Rolling Stone a new Missy Elliott album might arrive sooner than we think.

"She got the first single, it's just a matter of when she wants to do it. We got the hollow-tip bullet in the gun. We have the game-changer right there," Timbaland said.Hallelujah! Perhaps the clouds will soon part and we can all resume gettin' our freak on! Honestly, I never stopped jamming Missy's music, but my playlist will always have room for more of her songs. Surely I won't be the only one downloading her new single at light speed, that is, whenever she decides to release it. One thing's for sure though—I absolutely CAN. NOT. WAIT. to groove to some new Missy music.

Elliott hasn't released an album since 2005's The Cookbook, but she's still stiff competition for any of the current popular artists for multiple reasons. First off, she has the ability to sing and rap really well. Elliott also has the respect of newer artists who were probably still choreographing routines in their backyards when she wrote her first hit. For evidence, please see Elliott's collaborations with Danity Kane, rapper J. Cole and Fantasia, among others. To top it all off, she produces, writes and creates her own music. And I can't forget about the ultimate element that sets her apart from all her peers—her videos.

Don't tell me you didn't want a rock the over-sized shades, latex/trash bag look. OK fine, maybe her outfits were a little bit out there for everyday wear, but her music is honestly an everyday must-have and I hope to have more of it soon.
