How To Style... A Blanket?

by Erin Mayer

Since her time as resident Mean Girl on The City came to an end, Olivia Palermo has been busy getting married and being a bona fide style star. Confession: I've never seen The City — what kind of fashion girl am I? — so I never actually disliked Palermo. But even if I did, I'm sure I would have warmed toward her by now. I mean, Olivia Palermo wore a blanket and made it stylish. Who else could do that?

Palermo showed us how the pre-fall poncho is done when she stepped out in a monogrammed Burberry version on the streets of NYC, similar to the one worn by Cara Delevingne on the runway — It girls, unite! The future shoe designer paired her "OP" emblazoned designer blanket with teensy tailored shorts, a plaid button-down, and thigh-high boots. She capped off the look with a messy dirty blonde ponytail and polished Carolina Herrera handbag.

Her take made wearing a designer blanket seem downright sexy. I blame the thigh-high boots. But seriously, Palermo really pulls off the poncho look here. I'm actually amazed at how low-key and cute she is in this outfit, when ponchos tend to give the wearer a bag-like appearance. I guess the key is balancing silhouettes. Oh, and having legs like Palermo's.
