10 of the Best, Worst, and Most Forgettable Celebrity Fashion Lines

The photos for Rihanna's second River Island collection were unveiled Monday morning. From the looks of it, round two is a bit more refined (aka no dual-wash jeans). In honor of the unveiling, here's a look at some of the fashion lines with which celebrities have been so kind to grace us — for better or for worse.

Worst: Rihanna for River Island

Who? Rihanna

What? Rihanna's clothing collection for British label River Island.

When? Rihanna's first collection launched in February of of 2013, and her second collection will launch later this year.

Did It Work? Well, it worked enough for River Island to renew Rihanna's contract, but it was a sartorial fail, with a pair of dual-zip, dual-wash pair of jeans. But point blank: the clothing wasn't very good. Rihanna is a fashion icon, but she did not bring her A-game to the River Island collection.

Best: House of Harlow by Nicole Richie

Who? Nicole Richie

What? House of Harlow, a line of jewelry, sunglasses, bags, shoes, and clothing.

When? It launched in 2009 as a jewelry line, and has since expanded to be a lifestyle brand.

Did It Work? Yes. Richie's designs are acailable in high-end department and speciality stores including Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Neigman Marcus, and ShopBop. Richie's designs are actually good. Prior to House of Harlow, it wasn't exactly clear what Richie was famous for. The Simple Life? Being friends with Paris Hilton? Dating Joel Madden? House of Harlow has proved that Richie actually has staying power as a designer.

Worst: 6126 by Lindsay Lohan

Who? Lindsay Lohan

What? 6126, a line of leggings that eventually expanded to a full clothing line.

When? The line launched in 2008, but began to unravel as her personal life did. Lohan was eventually sued by DNAM Apparel Industries, the parent company of 6126. The company contended that Lohan owed $1.1 million in unpaid royalties and sales.

Did It Work? A line of leggings from Lindsay Lohan — does that sound like it worked? Rule of thumb: don't launch a line of leggings until you have your personal life in order. Or maybe just don't ever launch a line of leggings.

Worst: Heidiwood by Heidi Montag

Who? Heidi Montag, who studied at FIT for a literal day before quitting

What? Heidiwood. Get it? Like Hollywood. But with Heidi. Because that's her name. The line consisted of paper-think tank tops, shorts that hardly qualify as anything more than underwear, and lots of zebra-stripped items.

When? 2008-2008. No, that's not a typo. Montag's line was dropped just seven months after its launch.

Did It Work? Not only did the line fail epically, but it was also crazy-depressing. Montag and her boyfriend, professional Worst Person Ever Spencer Pratt later admitted that Heidiwood was just another failed attempt at fame. The whole line underscores how attention-hungry Montag became. The celebrity lines that work come from those who have a genuine interest in fashion and design, and use their fame as a launching pad — not the other way around.

Best: L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani

Who? Gwen Stefani

What? L.A.M.B. a line of clothing, accessories and fragrances.

When? It was founded in 2003 and made its runway debut in 2004.

Did It Work? Yes. L.A.M.B. makes an annual gross income of $90 million. When the label first launched, it had a huge streetwear influence, but Stefani has allowed the brand to grow with her. Now, the line is much more classic.

Best: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's Fashion Empire

Who? Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

What? The Olsens don't just have one fashion line; they have an entire fashion empire. In 2007, they launched Elizabeth & James, a contemporary collection. They launched their couture fashion label The Row in 2011. They've also designed clothing lines for J.C. Penney, and a a t-shirt line called StyleMine. Most recently, they collaborated with Norwegian retailer Bik Bok.

When? They began conquering the fashion industry in 2007 with Elizabeth & James, and have been on fire ever since.

Did It Work? Yes. The Row is highly regarded in the fashion industry...even if it did give the world a $39,000 backpack. It would have been easy for the twins to cash in on their teeny-bopper roots, but instead they've just about made people forget about Holiday in the Sun with their high-fashion designs.

Worst: Abbey Dawn by Avril Lavigne

Who? Avril Lavigne

What? Abbey Dawn, a clothing line inspired by Lavigne's personal style.

When? Abbey Dawn launched in 2010, and is still living the dream.

Does It Work? Not so much... maybe because the line includes a furry black bag adorned with skulls and studs? Or perhaps because it gave the world studded sneaker wedges called the 'Hell Yeah?' Or could it be the knee-high cheetah print boots? Abbey Dawn is pretty much exactly what you'd expect from an Avril Lavigne clothing line, but is that really what the world needs?

Best: Jessica Simpson by Jessica Simpson

Who? Jessica Simpson

What? The Jessica Simpson Collection, a line of clothing, handbags, accessories, sunglasses, jewelry, shoes, and fragrances, available in department stores.

When? The brand launched in 2006 as a shoe line, but expanded after great success.

Did It Work? Yeah, I'd say so. Its the first celebrity owned clothing line in history to earn $1 billion in annual sales. Simpson created a line that embodied her personal style — trendy, girly, relatively conservative — but doesn't scream Jessica Simpson. Even those who don't have "With You" on their iPod can appreciate her affordable designs.

Most Forgettable: Mblem by Mandy Moore

Who? Mandy Moore

What? Mblem, a line of t-shirts brought to you by the A Walk to Remember Star. It lived its short little life from 2005 to 2009.

Did It Work? Again: It lived its short little life from 2005 to 2009. Mblem certainly wins the "Most Forgettable" Award.
