A Crop on Top: Coco Rocha Shares Her Drastic Cut

by Alyssa Shapiro

Ponytailed no longer, model Coco Rocha’s mane underwent a major change on Monday, which she broadcast to the hair- and model-obsessed via Instagram.

Though her hashtags revealed Tilda Swinton as inspiration for the change, we can’t help but think Beyoncé had something to do with it as well, even if only the part about sharing it on social media. Stylist Anh Co Tran did the honors, after a ceremonial first cut by Rocha's husband, James Conran.

This isn’t the first time the model has documented a major hair change. In 2008, photographer Patrick Demarchelier documented Rocha’s new red hair for Vogue ’s January 2009 issue. Titled "Seeing Red", the accompanying story credits the change to a desire to harken back to Rocha’s Irish roots. Yes, that's correct — Rocha is a natural brunette, not a redhead, and she dyed it at the request of the ever-powerful American glossy. (They also had a hand in Taylor Swift’s bangs for her Vogue shoot.)

Here's hubby Conran starting out the chop for Rocha's latest big transformation:

Watch her cut near its end:

... Ta da! The finish:

I definitely see Tilda's influence.

The red still suits her, and she has the attitude, energy, and spark to pull off her new, cropped mane. We are definitely looking forward to watching Rocha sass on down the runway in just a few short weeks. (P.S. Less than one month until Fashion Week!)
