How Many VMAs Has Miley Won?

by Caitlyn Callegari

There hasn't been too much talk about Miley Cyrus in a bit, has there? To clarify, by "a bit" I mean a healthy two days or so. But hey, let's change that, shall we? Because a world without some Miley chatter is a world I'm not sure I want to live in. So, as you, and I'm sure every teenager within a 30 mile radius of you knows, the MTV Video Music Awards are on their way to a television set near you. And, more importantly, our good friend Miley is nominated for two of those bad boys this year. Rock on, girl. So how many VMAs does Miley Cyrus have so far? The answer may surprise you.

Just because Cyrus' current album is up for this accolade, doesn't mean she has received a moon man trophy before. You can say what you want about the former teen queen’s antics, but you can't deny that she’s achieved a commendable level of success for her young age and it's impressive by nearly anyone’s standards. Case in point, Hannah Montana's alter ego received her very first VMA nomination back in 2008 as a 15-year-old (damn over achiever). Since then, Cyrus has gone on to be nominated seven other times for the following songs:

"7 THINGS" (2008-2009) — BEST NEW ARTIST & BEST EDITING

"WE CAN'T STOP" (2013) — BEST POP VIDEO, BEST FEMALE VIDEO, BEST SONG OF THE SUMMER, BEST EDITING

"WRECKING BALL" (2014) — VIDEO OF THE YEAR & BEST DIRECTION

Despite her frequent nominations, she has yet to receive an award, barring the fact that she may clench one (or two!) this year. So, before we lament her as the Susan Lucci of the VMA's, let's take a look at the awards she has won.

First things first, girl has won 19 Teen Choice Awards. Yes, you read that correctly. She's also won two Billboard Music Awards, one Young Artist Award, six Kids' Choice Awards, an iHeart Radio Award, and has broken four Guinness World Records. So it's not exactly like she's hurting for a VMA or anything; although I'm sure it'd be another cooler than average thing to place atop her mantle. Here's to hoping for this year, Miley!
