Tina Fey Is Back to Take Over Television

by Rachel Simon

It's only been six months since 30 Rock went off the air, but its absence has hit fans hard. Thankfully, it looks like it won't be much longer before Rock creator/Liz Lemon/superwoman Tina Fey comes back into our lives. She, along with co-showrunner Robert Carlock, is executive producing a new show for NBC, and it has enough promise to make us say "I want to go to there."

The as-yet-untitled comedy will be produced and written by former 30 Rock writer Colleen McGuiness. The plot, said to be a workplace comedy, centers around a young woman who moves to Fire Island in order to reconnect with her family. Fey, Carlock, and McGuiness know a little something about making great comedy from zany work environments, so we trust that the new show will live up to our already-high expectations.

While it might disappoint some fans that Fey likely won't star in the comedy, just produce it, it's probably for the best. It's still too soon after 30 Rock for viewers to accept the woman behind their beloved Liz Lemon starring in a new series, especially if the workplace setting is anything at all similar to Rock's. It'd be great to see Fey return to TV eventually, but right now, only half a year past her former show's series finale, staying behind-the-scenes makes more sense. Here's hoping the new show has us lizzing each week.
