Meet Kerry Washington's Husband

by Ashley Adams

There are many parts of Kerry Washington's life that I would like to co-opt for my own, like her perfect skin — Seriously how is she always glowing? Does she moisturize with diamonds? — riding golf carts with Shonda Rhimes and Oprah, and unlimited access to Scandal spoilers. Basically, if I could trick Washington into a body switching scenario à la Freaky Friday, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Another fun fact is that Kerry Washington's husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, is no slouch either. And sure, this week might be all about Washington's second Emmy nomination for her role as Olivia Pope on Scandal, but that doesn't mean we can't shine the spotlight on Asomugha for just a second.

Here's eight things you should know about Nnamdi Asomugha:

THEIR WEDDING WAS TOP SECRET

I know, I know, a secret wedding is so Olivia Pope. Because of all the secrecy, details are pretty scarce, but we do know the couple said a very quiet "I do" in Hailey, Idaho on June 24 of last year.

THEY HAVE A DAUGHTER

The couple's first child, Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha, was born on April 21, 2014. President Fitz is already a big fan.

HE PLAYED IN THE NFL

And he wasn't a benchwarmer either — Asomugha was a first round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2003 and he was selected three times for the Pro Bowl. During his career he also played cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers, before signing a one-day contract with Oakland Raiders so that he could officially retire as a Raider on December 27, 2013. Classy!

HE DOES SOME ACTING ON THE SIDE

Yup, Washington isn't the only actor in the family. He made an appearance on Friday Night Lights in 2009. Since then he's made several appearances on the big screen as well as the small screen. He had a minor role in the Bruce Willis flick, Fire with Fire, and even co-wrote, produced and starred in the short film, Double Negative. Which means we should be seeing him on Scandal any day now, right? Make it happen, Shonda!

HE'S GOOD WITH MONEY

His resume isn't limited to football player, actor, producer, and writer (although, honestly, that would be quite enough). He also has a degree in corporate finance from the University of California, Berkley.

HE'S COLOR BLIND

Asomugha says his specific form of color blindness, called deuteranomaly (the most common form of color blindness), never affected his play on the field. Although it did give him some trouble on-camera.

HE HAS A CHARITY

He founded the Asomugha College Tour for Scholars in 2007. According to the program's website, its purpose is to provide "high-achieving high school students of color the opportunity to visit college campuses across the country." Asomugha is also the chairman of the Asomugha Foundation, a charity organization founded by his family.

So, to sum up: Not too shabby, Washington. Not too shabby at all.
