Ian's Going Back To 'LOST'... Sort Of

Great Scott! Is this actually going to happen? Ever since Damon found himself trapped on the Other Side at the end of The Vampire Diaries’s Season 5 finale, fans have been desperately wondering what’s become of their favorite blue-eyed vampire. Some say Damon will survive and become human, while others fear Damon is really dead. Thankfully, we know our Smolderholder will definitely be sticking around in some capacity given that Ian Somerhalder is still being billed as a series regular. But other than that small reassurance, we’ve kinda been left in the dark… until recently, that is.

A new piece of information has come bubbling to the surface, which hints at where Damon and Bonnie ended up after being swallowed whole by that bright white light. Well, not exactly where so much as when. Julie Plec spoke to TV Guide about the mystery surrounding Damon and Bonnie in Season 6 and divulged the following details:

“You'll definitely know before the end of the second episode. But pay close attention: Although the setting may look familiar, the duo is definitely in a place that's foreign to them. Perhaps it's not the where that matters at all!”

That can only mean one thing, right? It looks like we may very well have a time traveling situation on our hands. Somerhalder… time travel… you know what this makes me think of…

Seriously, the mind reels at the possibilities this could present. First of all, are they jumping backward or forward in time? If the place looks familiar but seems foreign, does that mean they’ll see what Mystic Falls looks like during a completely different time period? My instincts say yes, but there’s no telling what kind of shenanigans this could lead to for Team Bamon. That’s not going to stop me from making a few guesses though!

They’re Shown a Way To Get Back Home

I’m not even going to attempt to harness Plec’s creative genius, but perhaps going backwards (or forwards) in time will allow Damon and Bonnie the opportunity to find a way back to the land of the living. Maybe the only witch able to accomplish such a feat has yet to exist or can only be found during a particular time era. Either way, one thing’s for certain…

Come on, you know I had to do it at least once.

They Reunite With Everyone… in the Future

What if Damon and Bonnie end up stuck somewhere in the distant future and find themselves face-to-face with their friends’ future selves? (A majority of them are vampires, after all, and are more than capable of still being around hundreds of thousands of years down the line.) Can you imagine how strange that would be? For them it would feel like no more than a few minutes had passed, but for the others it could be the span of ten lifetimes. So much would be different. (I’m getting a headache just thinking about it.) But ya gotta admit, it’d be a pretty unique twist.

They Change the Past, Which Affects the Present

It’s the old Butterfly Effect adage: if even one little thing gets disrupted in the past, it could alter the course of the entire future. If sent to the past, Damon and Bonnie could accidentally do something that directly affects their friends back in present-day Mystic Falls. Obviously, chaos would ensue and further propel the plot in ways we cannot yet imagine. Maybe some vampires would no longer be vampires. Perhaps those who died are now still alive. (I’m looking at you, Jenna and Lexi.) Anything goes in a situation like this and I say "Bring it on!"

They’re Given a Way to Make Peace

Maybe this adventure through time and space isn’t so much about finding their way back home, but rather about finding a way to move on and make peace with what’s happened. Actually, this thought it just way too depressing, so let’s just forget I even mentioned it.

This Is How the Crossover Will Happen

Now that the TVD and Originals crossover is happening, everyone’s been racking their brains as to what’s going to bring these two amazing supernatural groups together again. Many suspect Klaroline will be the culprit. Others have gone out on a limb and suggested a Caroline-Elijah hookup. But what if we’re looking at this the wrong way? What if Damon and Bonnie run into the Original family while time-traveling? Heck, they could even end up being the ones who bring the two of them back from the Other Side. They are the most powerful vampire/witch/hybrid family in the world, after all. If anyone’s capable of making the impossible possible, it’s the Mikaelsons.

I'll drink to that.
