'Young Ones' Looks Promising Already

You know how the whole concept of Waterworld was that the polar ice caps had melted and covered mostly the entire world in water, leaving only patches of mythicized dry land? Right. Well, think of Young Ones as exactly the opposite of that. Based off of Young Ones ' first trailer, instead of an abundance of water, the future is mostly made up of a huge drought, and it's pretty difficult — and dangerous — to find any. Which, you know, sucks, since consuming water is an important part of being a human being.

It's an intriguing concept, though, one that Young Ones seems like it might do well. Starring Michael Shannon, Elle Fanning, and Nicolas Hoult, the plot is fairly complex:

The hardened survivors of the loss of Earth’s precious resources scrape and struggle. Ernest Holm (Michael Shannon) lives on this harsh frontier with his children, Jerome (Kodi Smit McPhee)and Mary (Elle Fanning). He defends his farm from bandits, works the supply routes, and hopes to rejuvenate the soil. But Mary’s boyfriend, Flem Lever (Nicholas Hoult), has grander designs. He wants Ernest’s land for himself, and will go to any length to get it.

Yikes! Sounds dramatic. You can check out the trailer for Young Ones below, and catch it in theaters on October
