5 People Who Have Already Endorsed Hillary For President In 2016

Jenna Bush, 31-year-old daughter of George W., made waves last week by encouraging Hillary Clinton to run in 2016. It may seem ridiculous for public figures, especially those with the surname “Bush,” to be making presidential endorsements a year and a half before the midterm elections — and it is. But it’s happening regardless, and a lot of these absurdly early endorsements are going to Hillary. Here are some of the most notable and surprising future campaigners for Hillary 2016.

Is It Too Soon To Endorse Hillary In 2016? Nah.

Anna Wintour

One interesting thing about Hillary is her traction with celebrities, a trait few elected officials—with the exception of Barack Obama—possess. A textbook example of this is Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who introduced Clinton at an event last month by proclaiming that “all of us at Vogue looks forward to putting on the cover the first female president of the United States.”

Warren Buffett

Warren Buffett may be old, white and rich, but he holds rather liberal economic views, which makes him about as common as a Republican who supports Obamacare. It wasn’t entirely surprising, then, when the investor sent a tweet in June that, if not an explicit endorsement of Hillary in 2016, is difficult to interpret any other way: he welcomed her to Twitter using the hashtag #45 .(If elected, of course, Clinton will be the 45th POTUS).

Michael Bolton

One person unambiguous in their support is Michael Bolton, who’s just about as big of a Clinton fan as they get. He recently gushed that Bill Clinton—who he’s counted as a friend for the last two decades— is “creating the greatest post-presidency in the history of the presidency,” and declared that “if [Hillary] decides to run, I will walk across the country to get her into office.” It doesn’t get much more full-throated than that.

Claire McCaskill

Earlier this summer, recently re-elected Senator Claire McCaskill endorsed the Ready for Hillary PAC, which is waiting in the wings for Hillary to declare her candidacy and has already raised more than $1 million.

Because endorsing one candidate inevitably alienates you from all of the others, it was something of a gamble for McCaskill to endorse so early. Unless, of course, she realizes how fragile her hold on that Missouri Senate seat is—she probably would have lost in 2012 if her opponent wasn’t Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin. Some speculate she has her eye on an appointment in a possible Clinton administration.

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria has been a huge Obama supporter, cutting videos for his reelection, co-chairing his reelection campaign, and speaking at last year’s Democratic National Convention. At the Newsweek/Daily Beast’s recent Women of the World 2013 summit, Longoria said that she was worn out from 2012 and wouldn’t lend herself to any more campaigning—with one exception.

“After this campaign, I mean, I was exhausted, and I said, ‘I don’t think I’m ever going to volunteer for another campaign,’” Longoria said. “And somebody goes, ‘What about if Hill—?” I go, ‘Unless Hillary runs!’”
